Early on...
Maurice Baldwin was born in the small town of Port Huron, Michigan in 1930. He found his passion for drawing and sketching at an early age and was soon taking art lessons from a local artist. The family moved to Detroit, Michigan before he became a teenager, which opened the doors for more opportunities in the art world.
High School During his high school years he studied at night, the art of charcoal sketching and oil painting at Lincoln School of Art. He took every available art class he could, including drafting and architectural drawing. After completing high school he came to California with his family and soon started painting local scenes in and around San Diego.
The Dream The paintings of the, “Missions of California,” was a dream that only retirement from cabinet making became a reality. Over a period of three years, collecting photos and data, Maurice was able to put on canvas his impressions of the California Missions as they are today.
