Mission San Buenaventura - 1782 |

Mission San Buenaventura was founded March 31, 1782 by Padre Junipero Serra and named for Saint Bonaventure. The first church was destroyed by the 1812 earthquake and rebuild in 1816. The mission was secularized in 1836 and became a parish church in 1842. In 1845, Governor Pio Pico rented the mission. It was returned to the church in 1862. The mission was restored in 1957.
