Mission San Juan Bautista - 1797 |

Mission San Juan Bautista was founded June 24, 1797 by Father Fermin Lasuen and named for John the Baptist. In 1798 the first church was complete. The second, present church, was begun in 1803 and dedicated in 1812. In 1935 the missions was secularized. It was returned to the church in 1859. An earthquake damaged the mission in 1906. Restorations from 1916 until 1950 have partially restored the mission.
